چکیده

This paper presents the preliminary design of the integrated stimulator and telemetry subsystems for a vestibular prosthesis to restore balance function. The work is part of the European project CLONS. The stimulator is designed to provide biphasic current pulses at specified amplitude, duration and rate to stimulate the semicircular canals in the vestibular system. Power and data transfer is provided by an inductive-coupled telemetry.

On Development of Totally Implantable Vestibular Prosthesis

This paper presents a functional architecture, system level design, and preliminary experimental evaluation of a unilateral vestibular prosthesis. The sensing element of the prosthesis is a custom designed one-axis MEMS gyroscope. Similarly to the natural semicircular canal, the microscopic gyroscope senses angular motion of the head and generates voltages proportional to the corresponding angu...

Towards a completely implantable , light - sensitive intraocular retinal prosthesis

An electronic retinal prosthesis is under development to treat retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration, two presently incurable diseases of the outer retina that afflict millions worldwide. Previous studies have established the feasibility of the retinal prosthesis. Short-term tests in blind humans have shown that degenerated retina will respond to light in a way that is consi...

Wireless Telemetry for Implantable Biomedical Microsystems

Rapid development of microelectronics during the past years allowed the emergence of high-performance implantable biomedical microsystems (IBMs). Nowadays, these systems share many features and basic components, and are being used in different applications such as neural signal recording, functional muscular stimulation, and neural prostheses. Due to implant size limitations in a wide range of ...

A Wireless Implant for Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders

Implantable functional electrical stimulation (IFES) has demonstrated its effectiveness as an alternative treatment option for diseases incurable pharmaceutically (e.g., retinal prosthesis, cochlear implant, spinal cord implant for pain relief). However, the development of IFES for gastrointestinal (GI) tract modulation is still limited due to the poorly understood GI neural network (gut–brain ...
